The Free-mom from Physioshop is a Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (T.E.N.S) instrument that is particularly designed to help the pregnant woman with less pain during the labour and after the birth. When the electrodes connected to TENS are placed at the appropriate positions over the skin, electric signals of manageable magnitude is sent by the instrument. The electrical signals can help in relieving the pain in three ways. Initially the pain is blocked from being sent to the brain. Secondly, the stimulation occurs during the therapy that induces the secretion of pain relieving substances such as endorphins and encephalons to reduce the pain and finally the electrical stimulation provides a kind of distraction when the pain occurs in the body.
