Otto Bock specialises in manufacturing a range of prosthetic and orthotic devices for the Australian market. Orthotic products or orthoses are designed to offer targeted support for stabilisation, immobilisation, relief and correction of joints, ligaments, fractures as well as paralyses. Spine orthoses find application in posture correction, lumbar spine correction, muscular stabilisation, lumbar spine stabilisation, thoracic spine stabilisation and vertebral body fractures. Various types of spine orthoses include posture support orthoses, back support orthoses, lumbar support orthoses, hyperextension orthoses, osteo care orthoses and stabilising orthoses.
Posture support spine orthoses are designed as single piece systems with a back section and straps for attachment. Made from skin-friendly Tactel, springs are used to stabilise the back section. Key benefits include increased awareness of body posture, recognition of correct body posture and regular use accompanied by an exercise programme. Spine orthoses can also be used to address weakness of the thoracic muscles. Lumbar support orthoses are designed to promote sensorimotor functions and activate muscle stabilisation in the lumbar area. Made using three-dimensional flat-knitted fabric with integrated corset splits as well as Skinguard technology, these spine orthoses offer skin-friendly, anti-bacterial and odour-inhibiting characteristics to enhance the hygiene factor.
