Synthetic bone grafting materials or Ostim are single-phase non-sintered hydroxyapatites and the chemical composition is similar to that of natural bone. Replacement of endogenous bone takes place after Ostim is absorbed into the defective area.
Bone graft procedures are undertaken for problems relating to maxillary sinus, augmentations in the areas of alveolar processes as well as intra-oral bone defects and are also used in periodontology. Grafting procedures using Ostim are also employed for the treatment of jaw cysts, intrabony peri-implantitis defects and intrabony periodontal defects. Ostim is available in limited quantities of 1ml and 2ml pre-filled syringes or 0.2ml single dosages.
