Cavitron SofTip Implant Inserts have been designed to be used with the Softip Disposable Prophy Tips in order to remove plaque and calculus around titanium implants and abutments. These implants can be used a single time. These are plastic tips that work with Cavitron Ultrasonic Implant Inserts. The tip tool, that is, wrench is used for the installation and removal of the SofTip disposable prophy tip. SofTip Disposable Prophy Tips are not designed for primary hard calculus removal during routine prophylaxis.
One must remember to replace the worn inserts. 1mm of wear off of the end of the scaling tips can reduce the efficiency by 25% and 2mm of wear off of the end of the scaling tip can reduce the efficiency by 50%. One can even use efficiency indicators that are available for tip testing. Most of the inserts last up to 6 to 12 months depending on their use.
